4/5/16Going (Emerald) Green

hutch

You may have seen me debut our old hutch in a new color on our post with Etsy last week — but today I’m gonna break it down. I found this hutch on Craigslist. It’s originally from Mexico and I immediately fell in love with its rustic charm (you can see it in it’s original color in the pic above). A couple of years ago, in a daring moment (I do this a lot when I’m PMS’ing) we painted it pink. And it stayed pink until a few  weeks ago when I decided it was time for (another) change. Instead of cutting my hair off (what I normally do when I’m feeling this way) I decided to paint the hutch emerald green.

After almost zero deliberation, I went with Emerald Isle by Benjamine Moore in matte. I picked that shade because it has a lot of teal in it and I thought that it would set the perfect backdrop for plants (I normally fill this thing with plants and tchotchkes). When the color first started to go over the pink I thought I had made a terrible mistake. It looked a lot darker than I had expected.

Then I reminded myself that I had felt the exact same way whilst painting it pink last time, and that I ended up loving the pink. Plus, it was only paint, and we could paint it a different color tomorrow if we disliked the outcome.

So we kept going. As the paint began to dry, the color lightened up a lot and I felt better about the whole situation (and infinitely better than getting a bad hair cut!)

Once done, I used my Nana Pink Wallpaper to line the back and styled it up with my go-to plantastic flair. I’ve been living with the green for a few weeks now and love the color and how it looks more green or more teal depending on the light and the time of day. I’m sure it’ll change colors again later on in it’s life, but for now, the Emerald Isle is giving me life!

Paint’s the best for those quick changes! I used to cut my hair all the time too- at least it grows back, but repainting is much easier than waiting 4 years for your bangs to grow out. ;)

Love Emerald Isle. I used this color on a campaign table redo.
I always have loved that apothecary cabinet with your plants. I came across a smaller version and used some blue/turquoise milk paint to jazz it up. I stuck in some succulents and african violets and parked in by my window with all my other plants for the photo shoot.
I was hoping that you could take a look because it’s right up your alley for The Jungelow!!! If you get a chance, I’d love if you could stop by my blog and take a look! It’s really cute. http://makemeprettyagain.blogspot.com/2016/03/vintage-apothecary-cabinet.html Here is the direct link. Thanks Justina!!

I really prefer it green (especially this beautiful esmerald one) than pink. I love the way you write. You are so funny.

I love all three looks:) Old stained one is charming, pink is adorable, emerald is amazing. No bad color in my world-just bad combinations. I love this hutch, it’s so versatile but has a character of his own. I bet it talks at night with other furnishings in the room..:)

Love everything thing you do. Your book is AMAZING!
The color is fabulous and the billy button “hardware” looks so good on the hutch!
Love the hanging tassels, too. Where can these be purchased?

  8. Loved it when it was pink and love it now Justina! Your fab wallpaper really gives it personality and would have worked with it before too!! I’m a child of the seventies and this look is slowly creeping back in to my home again:) Oh…and your book…love, love, love.
